Liquor stores are facing devastating threats to our livelihood from national grocery chains and other well-organized and powerful industry groups that are seeking to change liquor laws in NYS. There is an immediate threat and corresponding legislation in the NYS Senate and Assembly right now that will allow national grocery chains to sell wine. This will put every liquor store that is anchored by a grocery store out of business and devastate any remaining liquor stores that will be forced to compete with grocery stores that have the purchasing power and deep pockets to take the wine market away from liquor stores. The NYS Liquor Store Association is organizing with the Retailers Alliance and the Metropolitan Package Stores Association to create a unified statewide campaign to protect our stores. We are holding regional meetings across the state this fall to bring liquor stores together to prepare for a major public campaign and a statewide grassroots effort in every region across NYS. Every liquor store should attend at least one of these meetings. We need stores that are not currently members of the Association to join and support our Political Action Fund. We all need to unite in membership and build our Political Action Fund if we are going to be successful. See below for dates and RSVP Links.
